The P ( d ) , Euclidean quantum field theory as classical statistical mechanics

چکیده
To date in constructive field theory, two types of ultraviolet cutoffs have been used [32]: 1) A smeared field, i.e., g(x) is replaced by $,(x) = \ h(x y)$(y)dy, where h is some smooth positive approximation to the delta function; 2) Box and sharp momentum cutoff, i.e., g(x) is replaced by the periodic field Q ~ , ~ ( X ) , which is obtained by approximating the Fourier integral defining g(x) by a finite Fourier sum. In this section we wish to introduce a new cutoff method in which Rd (space-imaginary time) is replaced by a lattice and the Laplacian A in the Euclidean propagator is approximated by a finite difference operator. The effect of this approximation is to replace the measure (11.25) by a perturbed Gaussian measure in a finite number of variables, q,, . . . ,q,, each associated with a lattice point:

From euclidean field theory to quantum field theory
In order to construct examples for interacting quantum field theory models, the methods of euclidean field theory have turned out to be a powerful tools since they make use of the techniques of classical statistical mechanics. Starting from an appropriate set of euclidean 3⁄4 -point functions (Schwinger distributions), a Wightman theory can be reconstructed by an application of the famous Oster...
متن کاملD-Theory: Field Quantization by Dimensional Reduction of Discrete Variables
D-theory is an alternative non-perturbative approach to quantum field theory formulated in terms of discrete quantized variables instead of classical fields. Classical scalar fields are replaced by generalized quantum spins and classical gauge fields are replaced by quantum links. The classical fields of a d-dimensional quantum field theory reappear as lowenergy effective degrees of freedom of ...
متن کاملEuclidean Field Theory
In this review, we consider Euclidean field theory as a formulation of quantum field theory which lives in some Euclidean space, and is expressed in probabilistic terms. Methods arising from Euclidean field theory have been introduced in a very successful way in the study of the concrete models of Constructive Quantum Field Theory. Euclidean field theory was initiated by Schwinger [1] and Nakan...
